पञ्च = FIVE
The number 5 is considered important in many cultures
and traditions for several reasons: Symbolism: The number 5 has symbolic
significance in many areas of life, including art, literature, and religion.
For example, in Western culture, the five-pointed star is a common symbol of
protection, guidance, and inspiration.
Five is the second Fermat prime, the third Mersenne
prime exponent, as well as a Fibonacci number. 5 is the first congruent number,
as well as the length of the hypotenuse of the smallest integer-sided right
triangle, making part of the smallest Pythagorean triple.
Numerology Number 5 is associated with the ruling
planet Mercury. It is considered to be a good number that brings good luck
in life, and those who belong to this number are intelligent, adventurous, and
have good communication skills. However, their negative traits include talking
too much and overconfidence.
In Sanskrit, the following words indicate the number 5:
1) पञ्चभूताः (पृथिवी, आपः, तेजः, वायुः, आकाशः)
=
Earth, Water, Fire, Wind and Sky;
2) पञ्चेन्द्रियाः (नासिका, जिह्वा, चक्षुः, त्वक्, श्रोत्रम्)
=
Five sense organs - Nose, Tongue, Eyes, Skin and Ears;
3) पञ्चतन्मात्राः (घ्राणम्, रसनम्, उष्णस्पर्शनम्,
शीतस्पर्शनम्, श्रवणम्) = Five senses - Smelling, Tasting,
Seeing, Touching and Hearing;
4)
पञ्चपाण्डवाः (युधिष्ठिरः, भीमः, अर्जुनः, नकुलः, सहदेवः)
=
Five sons of Pandu = Yudhishthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula
and Sahadeva;
5) पञ्चबाणाः
(अरविन्दम्, अशोकम्, चूतम्, नवमल्लिका, नीलोत्पलम्) =
Fide Arrows of Cupid = Lotus, Saraca indica, Mango, Jasmine and Blue-Lotus;
6) पञ्चगव्यम्
(गोः - क्षीरम्, दधि, घृतम्, गोमूत्रम्, गोमयम्)
= Five things from a cow = Milk, Curd, Ghee, Urine and its Dung;
7) पञ्चतरवः (मन्दारः, पारिजातकः, सन्तानः, कल्पवृक्षः, हरिचन्दनम्)
=
Five Divine Trees = Mandara, Parijataka, Santhana,
Kalpavruksha and Harichandanam;
8) पञ्चवायवः (प्राणः, आपानः, व्यानः, उदानः, समानः)
=
Five types of Air related with human
