Lakshana, also known as
Lakshmana, was the daughter of King Brhatsena of the kingdom of Madra. When it
was time for her to choose a husband, she held a traditional ceremony called a Svayamvara,
where many noble men gathered. At this event, Lakshana chose Krishna as her
husband. This meant that she accepted Krishna out of her own will, which was a
respected custom in ancient times.
After the Svayamvara,
Lakshana became one of Krishna’s wives. She was one of his eight main queens,
known for their grace, devotion, and importance in Krishna’s life. This is
mentioned in the Padma Purana, an ancient Indian scripture.
Together, Lakshana and Krishna
had children. In total, Krishna had ten sons with her. Among their names were
Praghosa, Gatravan, Simha, and Bala. These details are found in the Bhagavata
Purana, another important Hindu text that tells stories from Krishna’s
life.
Lakshana’s story shows the
respect and admiration Krishna received from royal families and how his life
was closely tied to many noble and divine figures. Her place as one of his
chief queens shows her significance in Krishna’s life and in sacred texts.
